Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms

After reviewing the “Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms” cookbook by Jane Doiron, a busy mom and elementary school teacher, I have decided that it’s a keeper! It’s full of great recipes that have simple directions to follow and are easy to prepare. The meals can be eaten as soon as they are cooked, or stored for another day.

The back cover says this “new approach to meal planning will simply your life,” and it really will. There are lots of recipes for appetizers, breakfast, main meals, side dishes, soups and stews, breads, desserts, and much more. Some of my personal favorites are: Taco Lasagna, Stuffed Beef Tenderloin (so easy!), Crab Cakes, Mini Cheesecakes, Seafood Quiche, and Coffee Cake with Apple Pie Filling.

Doiron starts off the book with a section of helpful tips about freezing meals that include using a vacuum sealer, freezer bags, plastic wrap, and aluminum foil. There are also helpful ideas on saving time and money. Then, each recipe has instructions on advance preparation and straightforward cooking directions. Many recipes also feature instructions on how to properly freeze meals for later consumption.

Most of the ingredients you will either have on hand or be able to find quickly in the supermarket. Plus, the recipes are adaptable in case you or someone in your family has dietary restrictions. This is a perfect cookbook for someone who is new to cooking, who has little time to spare in the kitchen (hello!), or who just enjoys trying out new and interesting recipes (I’m raising my hand on that one too). I highly recommend adding “Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms” to your collection!
